長(zhǎng)期以來(lái)致力于流域(區(qū)域)尺度水文過(guò)程與規(guī)律研究、水資源時(shí)空分布、演化及可持續(xù)發(fā)展、水文與水資源模型研制、非點(diǎn)源模型開(kāi)發(fā)與應(yīng)用、農(nóng)業(yè)灌溉及生態(tài)系統(tǒng)保護(hù)、中美水資源政策比較分析等。力求回答的科學(xué)問(wèn)題包括:1)在氣候變化背景下有限的水資源能否滿(mǎn)足地區(qū)經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展和生態(tài)環(huán)境保護(hù)需求?2)人類(lèi)活動(dòng)所導(dǎo)致的土地利用變化如何影響水資源的時(shí)空分布?3)如何把遙感、GIS、計(jì)算機(jī)模擬、可視化技術(shù)和水資源管理相結(jié)合以支持水資源可持續(xù)利用?主要學(xué)術(shù)貢獻(xiàn)包括:
I.提出了流域尺度水資源分析的新概念、新方法和和管理模式
20世紀(jì)九十年代早期在國(guó)際上提出了綜合利用遙感、GIS、作物生長(zhǎng)模型和水文模型就土地利用/植被變化對(duì)區(qū)域和景觀尺度生態(tài)水文過(guò)程的分析途徑與方法,對(duì)地表環(huán)境(包括地面溫度、凈輻射、蒸發(fā)蒸騰)、地表徑流、土壤侵蝕、養(yǎng)分傳輸?shù)冗^(guò)程、機(jī)制和遷移規(guī)律作了深入研究;建立了以流域?yàn)榛A(chǔ)的集自然、生態(tài)和管理科學(xué)于一體的水資源管理模式;2008年在國(guó)際水文界與同事首次提出“水文資源域”的概念與研究方法,在國(guó)際水文界產(chǎn)生積極影響。利用模擬、遙感和監(jiān)測(cè)技術(shù)實(shí)時(shí)分析模擬、預(yù)測(cè)和可視化流域過(guò)程以及水資源及污染物的傳播與時(shí)空分布,并將這一新理念與方法成功應(yīng)用于美國(guó)五大湖地區(qū)水文水資源預(yù)測(cè)與管理。
II.提出了流域尺度點(diǎn)源和非點(diǎn)源污染的系統(tǒng)分析理論和方法
提出了流域是水文水資源分析的基本系統(tǒng)和單元,必須采用系統(tǒng)科學(xué)的理論與方法分析點(diǎn)源和非點(diǎn)源污染物在流域系統(tǒng)中的產(chǎn)生、傳輸和沉積過(guò)程和規(guī)律的重要學(xué)術(shù)觀點(diǎn); 開(kāi)發(fā)了基于ArcView 界面的農(nóng)業(yè)面源污染模型(AVNPSM)與技術(shù),已在12個(gè)國(guó)家46個(gè)部門(mén)得到應(yīng)用與好評(píng);與美國(guó)海洋氣象管理局(NOAA)五大湖環(huán)境研究實(shí)驗(yàn)室合作研究、開(kāi)發(fā)出大流域分布式水文水質(zhì)模型(DLBRM),已經(jīng)在北美40多個(gè)流域,中國(guó)西北黑河流域和其它國(guó)家得到成功應(yīng)用;于九十年代將非點(diǎn)源污染國(guó)際前沿理論和方法最先系統(tǒng)地介紹到中國(guó),1998年發(fā)表的《非點(diǎn)源污染的管理與控制》被引用640多次,在學(xué)術(shù)界產(chǎn)生較大影響。
III. 提出了兼顧生態(tài)保護(hù)及糧食生產(chǎn)的農(nóng)業(yè)灌溉理論與分析模式
九十年代提出了農(nóng)業(yè)灌溉需首先滿(mǎn)足流域河流生態(tài)需水量,且將此方法應(yīng)用于美國(guó)五大湖農(nóng)業(yè)灌溉研究與管理中;將運(yùn)籌學(xué)等系統(tǒng)科學(xué)分析方法應(yīng)用于流域農(nóng)業(yè)灌溉,提出了滿(mǎn)足兼顧農(nóng)業(yè)生產(chǎn)、農(nóng)民收入和生態(tài)保護(hù)協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展的管理政策與模式;2004年以來(lái),與中國(guó)科學(xué)院和蘭州大學(xué)合作,應(yīng)用系統(tǒng)科學(xué)分析方法和水文模型,就干旱內(nèi)陸流域生態(tài)水文過(guò)程和旱區(qū)水資源利用等關(guān)鍵問(wèn)題開(kāi)展研究,將DLBRM模型成功應(yīng)用到黑河流域,構(gòu)建了山區(qū)-綠洲-荒漠的自然-人工-水資源量化體系,為促進(jìn)嚴(yán)重缺水地區(qū)社會(huì)-經(jīng)濟(jì)-生態(tài)復(fù)合體系的協(xié)調(diào)發(fā)展提供了新的思路方法和科學(xué)數(shù)據(jù)支撐。
